Poet of the Month

My favorite poem we have read in class so far is "September Twelfth, 2001" by X.J. Kennedy. I loved how he expressed emotions from the terrorist attack through the eyes of grateful survivors. His one of those poets that takes an unexpected approach to writing which makes his poems interesting. He also picks unusual topics to write about. Here is a poem I found on Poetry Foundation that I also like by X.J. Kennedy:

Nude Descending a Staircase

Toe after toe, a snowing flesh,
a gold of lemon, root and rind,
she sifts in sunlight down the stairs
with nothing on. Nor on her mind.

We spy beneath the banister
a constant thresh of thigh on thigh;
her lips imprint the swinging air
that parts to let her parts go by.

One-woman waterfall, she wears
her slow descent like a long cape
and pausing on the final stair,
collects her motions into shape.
